Tom
Well I found out today we fly our first race on the 11th,I have lots to do....If you ask me its way to soon this year,But.!!! ..No Excusses.Looks like I better get the birds down the road.
....1/2 my W/H's will fly 4-5 circles then trap in the W/H cocks side..The cocks are in the hens section sitting on perches at this time. The other 1/2 will fly for 2 hrs..???..is this normal..Good/bad..????

Tom
If I close the traps so these first 1/2 can't trap in the loft it brings the other 1/2 down from flying..Either way they all will be trained the same and I quess the ones flying for 2hrs will have a easyier time and will be starting out in better condition.Still wonder why some are flying and the others are not..

Tom
Last Time..haha....Maybe the first 1/2 are my 500 mile type birds...humm....I'll keep notes, and a close eye on these ones...They LOVE their Cocks boxes and will fight any other hens that enter theirs by mistake.OK Good Night got to get up early....Training in the cold/morning..Don't like it but.!!!

BillS, Well, 1/2 that trap real quick probably have good motivation but might be lacking condition - when it comes to racing. You are likely correct that the trappers should do better on the shorter races and the ones's that fly for two hours should do better on the long ones. At least on that basis alone. I might force those lazy hens to fly for a while in hopes that they get to like it. Yes - not much time to your firdst race....get on the road - again!

Flash. Court report in the District of Cyber space trial, Sunbeam VS Billy T. Plaintiff asserts BillyT has deformed his character. Defense poses that it was his parents, upbringing, elementary shool nuns, and reform school councilors that truly have deformed his character. Plaintiff now on the stand describing how he is not a fraud, but really a big fish. Lets race. Bye Billy

Well if THOSE are Big fish, they are like the big fish we catch here that almost nobody wants to take home and normally leave on shore,So that they don't mess up the lake for the really Big normal type fish everyone wants.Still there are those who will take THOSE suckers home for the cats.haha.!!

Trained today,I knew my birds were healthy, but they are also in better shape then I had thought.Latebreds, hens and cocks all went.30 miles right off..Super condition but NO motivation what so ever to go in the loft,Cocks were clapping off/on the loft.Leaving the sexes together tonight as they have'nt seen one another for almost 3 weeks.Basketing them up tonight and sending them tomorrow 60 miles,Should be motivated and not so wanting to fly around the loft all morning.Glad to see all so healthy and really suprized at the latebreds.

I saw quality today, from a short toss, the birds first car ride of the year.
19 hens and 25 cocks. No winds, rain or cloud when Chris left here with them. Took them to 20 miles. They flew all week in pouring rains. But fog and high winds are cancels for me.
Got 11 hens back and 20 cocks. Very high winds now.
Still sunny but... a motorcycle was picked up and thrown off the highway by the winds about a mile from here. Our heavy 2 seater swing was picked up and tossed about 5 feet before hitting ground and breaking to pieces. It may have gone farther but it landed against the loft and aviary.
I asked Chris if it was windy when he let them out. He said no. Then awhile later he forgot and laughing, said the baskets were picked up and thrown upside down by the wind. The 2nd basket of cock birds were still in their basket. He turned the basket right side up and released them. He thought it was hilarious and finally had to share that info.
Not bad. One toss and Chris is grounded from doing the driving already. He also wishes he had not told me. All are here now except one hen. The older ones that are coming back to the race team after being stocked last year, were the slower ones returning. They were an hour later. Took some of them 10 minutes just to land in the high winds.
Yesterday he let my Le Tour auction bird out by accident. She flew with the cocks, the hens, and then with the young birds but would not come in. After the last young bird came in, she took off at 10:30 am. Thought I was going to have to call Andy and tell him the 'Le Tour- Round Two hubby style' was on. But at 11:03 she was back and trapped in after checking me out for 1/2 an hour. I keep telling Chris stock birds don't belong in a race loft. It's like talking to a brick wall.
And so another race season at the Steacy Family Lofts is underway.
