I have a mate that had a 6 year old bird that just died. He observed about a minute before its death that it was sneezing constantly and coughing. Then it just fell of its perch and died after twitching a bit. Then some water that was slightly yellow came out of its mouth. Its crop was also empty of food.
He said he has been working a lot this past week and did not observe his birds at all this week. He also states that non of the other birds seems sick and that they are all eating well.
The dead bird (a cock) was nesting at the moment and the eggs are about to chip. The vet is now closed for the evening and he asked if I could help.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Joe... unless the vet you have there is very much better than the ones we have here, I don't think he'll be able to help that bird.

Sorry, I should have made my post clearer by stating that we were wondering what was wrong with it and if the condition would spread to others in the flock. More so to prevent other deaths.

Ah, wel depends on how much you can seperate them... as much as possible, using any thing that is safe should be used. No Water in Loft... only POP it in and clear. Get to the vets and Pay a FEW £333333's and have an autopsy done.
Look Closely... bit late now but... throat, eyes, Skin and feet / legs. Feel for bodt wieght loss, Study the feathers, LOOK closely and wing feathers and see if any deformanties and noticable, or either wing is in regards feathering different. Look at toe nails and their colour...pigment etc. The Ear should be took into considerating and cleanliness. Search under all feathers closely and look for any colour, or skin deformaties.... really if not expierenced I would go along to the Vet..... Well I use to go along to a wise ole fancier or even a Farm hand... or the farmer, your be surprised what they can show you, and the causes .. even the cures. A gypsy camp will have some one there who would probably shed some good light on it also.

Ask your friend had the bird been out side the loft. Over the years some of the dead birds I have had injested fertilzer and were poisoned. If it happens again to his older birds he needs a post. Lets race. Bye Billy

He has informed me that he just had an autopsy done. The results showed that it was suffering from respiratory. He had the bird for about a month and that it was mated to a nother bird. It was on eggs at the time and the chicks have hatched 12 hours after the cock bird died.
I would like to put forward another question. Will the hen be able to look after the young ones on her own?

Jail for gossiping

A Colombian city has introduced a new law under which people can be jailed for gossiping.

Under the law in Icononzo, malicious gossiping is punished with up to a £50,000 fine or four years in prison.

A city spokesman told Terra Noticias Populares: "People should be aware that using their tongues to speak evil is the same as having dynamite in your mouth."

Mayor Jesus Ignacio Jimenez defended the new law against critics who say it is over the top.

"It worries me the amount of people going to prison or being killed because of a gossip," he said.
