There was a report given on another list that gave the results so far of Jack Barkels grading. I thought it was quite interesting and have copied it here with permission. This is in no way intended to discredit anyone here or to promote Jack but just as evidence of an eyesign experts grading success.
...Hi Terry, Thanks for the congrats. Jack had quite an influence actually. Two cocks we were using as pumpers Jack graded "My Choice", his very best rating. So we bred them with "My Choice" hens. Also there were 11 birds we pulled from the racing team and put in the breeding loft as per Jacks recommendations. We followed Jack's recommendations as far as all our pairings went this year. OK in the concourse we placed 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 16, and so on, out of over 1500 birds. 1st & 8th were birds bred by other people. out of the above birds 4 of them were from birds I never would have bred out of until Jack told us to. last week in the Lou race all 5 birds were out of Jacks pairings with 4 of the five once again coming from birds I would not have bred out of such as the two cocks mentioned above. Quite impressive I would say. We still have 4 futurity races to go so we shall see if the trend continues...
Second post:
...Terry Reimer had asked me if Jacks grading had made any influence on our results. I gave a brief reply but the actual results are even more significant that I thought. As you know our YB season is over, the concourse started with over 1500 birds, plus we have flown one Futurity so far, The Lou McElroy.
1580 "Big Al" had been a pumper before Jack graded him "My Choice", we paired him to a hen "748" that Jack pulled off our race team. Big Al and 748 bred 5th & 9th champion birds, concourse, and 10th bird in the Lou race.
"749", nest mate brother to "748" was also pulled from the race team by Jack, paired with one of our "Patriot" daughters "7723" they bred 13 champion bird concourse, and 4th & 11th Lou race.
Good old "Studly" paired with "705" another hen pulled from the race team bred 7th & 16 champion birds, concourse.
And good old "Grumpy", our 14 year old pumper that had been passed from 5 different flyers because he has a NPA band bred 8th bird in the Lou race.
We have other birds that bred as good but were known breeders. The above birds are the hidden gems that would never have been used if it wasn't for Jack...
