like most who read pigeon books and magazines. I look at pictures of winners and pigeons and eye's and coops and all the usual things when ever I can, and over the years I have noticed that many, no, most of the birds which win the classics and are photographed and shown on the magazine covers have one thing in common.

If you look closely at the flights, most are on the SEVENTH flight. I learned a hundred years ago that birds do seem to hit a peak when on the seventh flight, and have always assumed that my observations confirm this but, I was wondering howmany others reading this have seen and noticed the same thing.?????

There is also another observation that I made many years ago and would like other comments on and that is the chequering pattern of the BODY feathers continuing on down the length of the thigh.

When ever I see this feature, I have always discovered that the bird is among the very best in the coop whoever they belong too and without exception.

Any comments on these things would be most welcome.

Alby. Your most valuable and informative opinion has been duly noted and filed away in the most secure and prestigeous location I could find for possible later consideration however, at this point in time, I still think your full of shit.

Roly got the zell oxygen from Globals. Got both the liquid and powder. John Munns used it on Wednesday on the feed. But I am not sure it will not disapate before shipping on Friday. I do know vitb12 used for the same as an antioxidant to give the bird more red blood cells to hold oxygen is good only for less than 24 hrs. My thoughts are to use the Zell in the Friday drink on basketting. Ask Munns what he thinks and get back to me pal. Thanks mucker. Lets race. Bye BillyT

Hi Bob

Most of my first round youngsters are currently on their 7th flight. Last week was the worse race I have ever flown. Just one observation. I did pull the 9th and 10th, which were fully grown back in about a month ago. That may make a difference.

By Billytaylor on Tuesday, August 06, 2002 - 06:40 pm: Edit

Mike V hello bud, next year breed early so you dont have to pull flights. I have done it but I think the natural moult is best. Glad to argue the merits at Windsor. Lets race. Bye BillyT

By Mikev on Tuesday, August 06, 2002 - 06:51 pm: Edit

Hi Billy. We start racing 1st weekend in August so it is very difficult to get them through even if bred on Thanksgiving. This is the first time I have ever pulled flights. So far it has not caused any complications (except maybe last weeks race). I will reserve judgement until the end of the season.

By Roly on Tuesday, August 06, 2002 - 06:55 pm: Edit

Frank uses it Tuesday and Thursday, but twice for him is because he uses the leeches on Sunday weekly.. John only fornightly. Remember it was 24 hours or more in the system before it starts to take effect. Hence check on normal lofts flys.
Will phone them both tomorrow anyway.

Thanks me mucker, You are full of shit, but a buddy. Now I havent used Zell so I am asking why and how to use it. These two Champs do and I want to know how and why. You know me never do anything unless you know why? If you and Lady get over this October, you got to stay with me until I run out of food and booze. Probably about a year. Will be fun, you ponker. You are real and most dont know it. I can learn much about pigeon flying from you, dud. Bet I can teach you a thing or two also. Lets race. Bye BillyT

Hey you two Plonkers. There's a product called OXYTEX which you need a script from a vet for and which put's things like Red Cell to shame and is used for two days before shipping. Works like a jetex pill up the ying yang. VVVOOOOOOMMMmmmmmm And it's quite legal and harmless but potent.

By Baetensd on Wednesday, August 07, 2002 - 09:39 am: Edit

billy,
once a week on wednesday seems a good schedule for giving zell oxygen ... but then again, it's also suitable for giving it twice a week so ... so it depends a bit on it fits in your schedule.
i thought it influenced the uptake of oxygen rather by influencing the utilisation of it by the cells then by creating more red blood cells and that therefore it would be beneficial no matter when it is giving in the week ...
my thoughts only

greetz,
D

Bob, do you have a picture or seen one on the internet with the chequering on the legs like you described. I have never seen it and would like to. Thanks

By Mreyesign on Wednesday, August 07, 2002 - 02:34 pm: Edit

You are right B. The use of any and all oxygen stimulators is exactly the same as BLOOD PACKING that is done with race horses. The moore blood they have, the more oxygen the body can deliver to where it's most needed.

To Rob. I'll see what I can find for you when I get the time. Gotta go pick up the car today so that's taking all my attention at the moment. VV VOOOOOOOOWWMMMmmmmmmmm.

Interesting that Zell Oxygen has been a subject. I've been researching it for a while after first hearing about it on here. A draft of the research results thus far can be viewed at: http://racingbirds.com/remedies6.html
This will be the first week I will try it with the birds.

To Rob. The difficult thing about seeing the upper thigh in photo's is that it is covered by the wing. I looked at several but it's just not possible. Sorry Pal you will have to try to remember to look yourself. It is best seen in the blue chequers than Reds but does show up in them too, but Not in blue bards or Mealy's

To those who are interested in car's. The dino say's it'll do 145 so today we shall see. If you never hear from me again you will know that a wheel fell off or something like that. VVOOOOOOOOOooooooooommmmmmmmm This thing fly's and handles like a dream. The worlds only series 3 XJC V8. YAHOOOOOOOOO. I just may drive it to Windsor.

Bob, if you are driving to Winsor stop by, I'm right on I-80 on the way. Oh, that must be what the crate of pigeons is for to leave here? We already decided we couldn't take any to Canada with us, remember. That way from here to Winsor you and Candy & Brandy will have more room!

Did anyone hear from Bob? Has he returned from his test drive????

By Mreyesign on Friday, August 09, 2002 - 11:39 am: Edit

Yes I did OK but not what I wanted. My first run was at 138 so we tuned it on the dino and she ran 147 but that was absolutely it flat out. I really wanted 150+ but I guess we can't have everything still, I am going to install a new kind of ingition system today called an "MSD" System which I am told does wonders so we shall see. I think the flat frontal shape of the grill also held me back. I guess it's like comparing the head of a racing bird with that of a turn crown. Next step new fiber glass front body shape and a stabiliser then Bonneville salt flats. Woohoooooo.

By Marvin on Friday, August 09, 2002 - 05:15 pm: Edit

Bob, what kind of birds are you training that 138 mph is not enough? Mine must be duds.

By Mreyesign on Friday, August 09, 2002 - 10:49 pm: Edit

To Marvin and Big MikeMAK. Marvin I will one day own the worlds fastest Jaguar, that is my current ambition.

Big Mike. Well I have had a good time finding out who has the best Beckaerts in America and have re established some old friendships etc while doing so. This is what I found out.

The original birds were brought in by Paul Ve Gates widow from a guy in Europe called DePaul. These came to California and the deal to distribute them, which I have no idea how this came about, was that only certain people were invited to draw straws for one each of the birds.

The best bird went to Dan LePree of the FVC and the other went to a guy who's name escapes me but he lived in the same area where the drawing was done called Compton which has always been a hot spot of racing here and one of the biggest clubs in th L/A

LePree bred heaps of good pigeons from his and kept then pure as long as he had them finally selling out to Jim Wheeler who later moved to Origon and sold out to a car dealer in Orange county who I do not know.

The other guy who won by one pair by draw didn't sell or give any away and when he died birds went to my very good friend Lloyd Felix who was my and Calabreses partner and friend off and on over the last 40 years in cluding the year we won the Snowbird Classic. Felixes Beskaerts have bred several (4) high prize winners in these CLASSIC races

The other person who has them was another old friend of mine in Freddie Raverra.

Fred was winning races with them in the east before he moved to California and he kicked Butt big time when he flew them here in the Valley. After this he moved to Phoenix I think and did the same there then to Texas and again kicked more Butt with them until finally he moved to Florida in the little Belguim situation called Spring Hill. He is kicking Butt Big Time there also, and all with the same DePaul Beckaerts that Felix and the other guy's had.

I have spoken to both parties and have been invited to go down and select a pair of breeders for you from Felixes Beakearts and, he has kindly offerd to include the son of his old original cock, together with a son of this cock just because of his age and incase he is finished breeding. I will select the best son for you and Felix knows this also. You will have to tell me where to send them and when etc, but these will be the real McCoy top of the line stuff so give em hell with them Mike and good luck.

Footnote. I also learned that the beckaerts were also many years ago, called the "Cheshsquires". (Spelling ??) Which were a major part of the original foundation birds of the Calabrese family that I like so much. How about that????? That has to be proving something don't you think. They win everywhere too.

It's also worthy to mention that Felix won high point bird of the year in the FVC with a Beckaert last year down off this old cock you are getting Mike.

Finally, I also learned that recently Felix sold $22,000,OO.oo worth of his VeGate Devrendts which flew so well for me and many others and, that I have mentioned on here before today to Taiwan. He is also somehow being helped along these day's by the Canadian Guy Von Troba, but in what way I have no idea? Well done Felix.

If anyone would like to talk to Freddy his e-mail is freddiesbekaerts@c},s,com Felix does not have a computer but his phone No is 1 818 892-0161. You can even mention my name.

Zell Oxygen
I received an email and realized there could be confusion as to the dosage I will try
with the birds. I have changed it to read "It requires 24 hours or more before
effectively in the blood stream. Therefore I will add one 1/2 vial per US gallon to the
birds water on Thursday for basking on Friday and Saturday race."
The suggestions for human use on the box is: Adult: 1-2 vials per day, 1/2 vial twice
daily.

Todays race will be the first trial. Sadly our federation truck was stopped by inspectors and failed inspection. It had to return. The son of a club member is taking our birds(13 baskets)to the release point (220 km) for release some time after 12:00, That means that the birds will fly during the warmest part of the day. The forcast is for 28 deg. C and the wind will be on their nose at about 14km/hr. It should be a difficult
race.

By Sunset on Saturday, August 10, 2002 - 09:57 am: Edit

Sorry the 1/2 vail twice daily is suggested on the package for children.

Hi Bob F,

Sorry for the delayed response been off getting married and taking care of marital responsibilities. She's the "BOSS NOW".

That sound's Great Bob. Sounds like you’ve gone way out of your way to find out about these Great Bekaert’s "THANK YOU VERY MUCH". I would be extremely honored to be able to get them from you. But I don’t know if I can afford them especially now since I got married.

I got my Original Bekaert’s for a steal. Only paid $300.00 for 3 pair from Al Campbell, $300.00 for 3 pair from Mike Keitel. I paid the most for the Verbruggens $1500.00 for 6 pair.

My “ORIGINAL FOUNDATION PAIR” I paid $100.00 for. “Torreken Bekaert Cock” and a “Leo Bekaert Hen”

My “ORIGINAL #1 PAIR” I paid $195.00 for the cock a “Torreken Bekaert”/ “Leo Bekaert”/ “Van Gluck”/ “Havaneth” / “Hanssenne” and $50.00 for the hen a “Mike Keitel Bekaert Hen”

The Bekaert's that I had came from a local flyer "Al Campbell" the best "RACING PIGEON FANCIER" we've ever had here in Salt Lake City Utah. He won with them from 100mi - 320mi Y.B's, 100mi - 600mi O.B's, fast or slow, any weather.

When I was in Junior High back in Hawaii (mid to late 1960's) I would read about "Al" in the "RACING PIGEON BULLITEN" and he was kicking these guy's butts all the way till he retired at 86 years young due to Cancer of the blood or bone marrow in 1995.

He had 3 different groups or families.

The "Tucson Arizona Bekaert’s" from a "Gene Hamilton" which Al called the "Leo Bekaert's". These were DC's, DCPD, and on the small to medium size "Beautiful Dark EYES".

The "Torreken Bekaert’s" from Ohio from "Jim Hazek". These were DC's, DCPD's, Medium Small - Medium Big, again "Beautiful Dark Eye’s" "GREEN EYES".

The "Hutchison Bekaert’s" Direct and hand picked from "George Hutchison" (the father anyway) from Southern California. These were mainly BB's, Small - Large, with more the White or Pearl type EYE's.

I didn’t have much success with the “Hutchison Bekaert” Line Myself though.

“Al “crossed these three lines or families for racers!!!!!

And INBRED or LINEBRED for BREEDERS!!!!!

With the "Leo Bekaert’s" crossed on the "Torreken Bekaert’s" doing the best at 250mi - 600mi.

Then I also got some "Detroit Based Bekaert’s" from "Mike Keitel" out of "DODGE CITY KANSAS". These excelled for "Mike" at 400mi - 700mi in tough conditions and weather and were mainly DC's, DCPD's, with an occasional White or RED. The Whites Mike said when you got one were supposed to be the Great Breeders. Their EYE's varied from Dark Yellows or Gold, Chestnut Brown, with some Rich Darker Pearls.

I also got some "WATERHOUSE BEKAERTS" from "Dick Earthman" "AQUIRUS LOFTS" originally out of Riverside Southern California now in Las Vegas Nevada. He is very good friends with Freddie Rivera, and Greg McKnight etc. These ranged from medium small - large, with a wide variety of Beautiful EYE's.

These "Waterhouse Bekaert’s excelled for me when crossed on my "Verbruggens".

The “Verbruggens” I hand picked from "Stan Culligan" of "Napa" California up by "John Garzoli". Stan was also one of those that started the "American Sion Club" with John.

These Verbruggens were INBRED to the “AS COCK” of “Gommere Verbruggen” or off of “060” ½ Brother to the “AS”, “031”. These were mainly BB’s with some BC’s, small – large in size. Their EYES were the Darker Rich Pearls with some yellows or gold.
The “Verbruggen” X “Waterhouse” cross did well for me 150mi – 350mi.

I also know another fellow in Las Vegas originally from Hawaii who raced back in the late 50’s and early 60’s back in Florida and kicked there butt’s down that way. He was partners with a “Col William Britt” He flew a family of Stassart’s hand picked straight from Dr Lorena’s loft by Dr Lorena himself in Cuba Tamio Crossed these with the “Morrison Sions”. Tamio calls these “RED TONI’S”. These “RED TONI”S” have GREEN EYE SIGN.

The other fellow that flew well and gave Tamio competition was a “Jim Gillespie” Jim had a family of Deverient’s and had several HOF birds with this family both in Florida and up in the North West when he flew against “Chris Peeman”.

Jim flew great 100mi – 350mi with these Deverient’s then from 400mi – 600mi the “RED TONI”S” took over. Tamio and Col Britt and others also won with the “RED TONI” blood at 1000mi and 1200mi.

Tamio has both of these families back again in Las Vegas both his “RED TONI’S” and “JIM’S” “H.O.F. DEVERIENT FAMILY.

Bob F, Marvin, Billy T,

Thank you all very much for the Congrats and Best Wishes on our marriage.

We've been together for going on 7 years so hopefully we have some of the kinks worked out.

Plus both of us have been married and divorced once before. You'd have thought we learned our lesson the first time round?

We just can't seem to loose the other. So we thought the next step was to get married. Never thought I'd do that again.

Billy only racing 3 races our money races.

$5,000.00 in our Small Club Live Bird Auction Races a 220mi race, 320mi race. I have the most birds still in my loft bought 10 have 6. Most others only have 1 maybe 2 left. So if I can keep my birds healthy should do ok.

3rd Race 360mi is our GREAT SALT LAKE CLASSIC RACE about $30,000.00 in it hopefully with pools etc.

I have 20 for it maybe a few more last minuet entries.

Then training all others out too either 260mi or 320mi myself.

Y.B's are just "GLOWING WITH HEALTH" right now. Most only have 1 or 2 flights left to moult they should all be finished by my first race which is 09/21/02.

Good Luck to you too Billy in the Y.B. races show no mercy and take no prisoners!!!

Well like I said before ..... I will never ever train my birds in easy 3/4/5 mile stages again. It is an utterly time wasting exercise that means too much time and effert that could be spent else where is lost for dilly dalling over pigeons that aren't worth a jott.
Had more loses this year than ever had before, even as an impatience novice.
Birds are undoutedly slower in homing and take yonks. After all the extra expence and time spent I find I am wel out of having the birds prepared and ready to roar. At this rate I will be a also ran. The confidence alone NOT instilled in me for starters is a pain... Unless one carries on regardless and keeps sending a little further till they are repeatedly sent to a 'Breaking Point' regularly. Along the way side there are so called causulties that Fanciers tend to feel is the norm and that Losses are inevitable. The mere reaching the 'Breaking Poiunt' and what not regardless is a blight and contary to what the very aim is .. To have steady and reliable expierenced birds for Racing. If this was indeed the truth then it would take weeks to keep rebuilding the Birds confidence let alone the fanciers. So I start with 28 odd. Have culled three. Lost 10 and have no confidence in what is here and had them 60 miles at long last. Crikey 1/2/3 tosses and I would have had less losses and far far more confident birds that I was confident in. What a waste of money let a lone time. Never again... But Like I said go back to square roots and see where I have gone wrong. Well Molley coddling youngster is sure One hell of a mistake.
