BEST THING TO DO FOR JUST A BIRD OR TWO.???

By Bshuba on Saturday, March 09, 2002 - 11:25 am: Edit

Well if these 1-2 birds have been drinking out of the same water as the rest in the loft,I would suggest medicating them all or the problem will just keep going from bird to bird.My opinion..

There are individual pills made.....

By Bshuba on Saturday, March 09, 2002 - 11:46 am: Edit

Also keeping in mind a bird can have canker even though it don't have it hanging out its beak or inside its mouth..Why take chances Before or during race season.

BILL, All pigeons have canker in their crops, the only thing we can do is to keep it in check. just like cocci.

THANKS GUYS,

I THINK FOR THESE PRISONERS THE PILL WILL DO THE TRICK.

By Roly on Saturday, March 09, 2002 - 06:13 pm: Edit

Bob... A big asset of the canker is that it is reported to actually dispose of Hawks like. Their system can't combat it and they die.
Now how bad is it to do the trick in that scenario?

Roly ,I posted an article about that and got a bunch of flack over it but the truth is that, falcons in the wild cannot fight off the effects of CANKER in their systems.??????And being a falcon flyer, I can attest to this. PS. I had an e-mail from a regular on our site today who wishes to remain nameless. ??? Wanted to know where and when I posted a little article on the selecting of your best flyers for the forth coming season in the nest. RED BABIES. Could someone please inform us of where that post was made and where. thank you.

HI BOB. just curious a what age do you treat your ybs for canker and cocci.six weeks ten weeks etc.do you treat them withot having them tested. or have you just learned over time that they need treatment at a certain age.

The other aspect of this topic is 'If only two are showing the symtoms etc..... why keep them? I wouldn't bother.. they'd have to be a real proven breeder or something to even think about keeping them.

Yes all pigeons have canker but I haven't seen an outbreak inyears;natural health the only way to go.

Hi Bob F. , is this a fact ( red babies ) ? This year so far I have 12-15 that look sort of like that , more orange like . Are these suppose to be better racers ?

By Oscar on Sunday, March 10, 2002 - 11:48 am: Edit

Hi Bob F. , I forgot to this , would it not be a family trade that some of these YBs are orange/red the first few days ?

By Mreyesign on Sunday, March 10, 2002 - 11:54 am: Edit

To Oscar. Wow buddy I usually breed between 100 and 120 babies and seldom see more than 10 so good for you. That's what it signifies but they only appear RED during the first 12 to 24 hours. Then they fade to the normal yellow colour. It is something I have watched for many years and found it to be very reliable. Dave I treat for cocci and canker at the same time. When the youngsters are 6 weeks from the first race just before I start training.

But one thing that many are inclined to forget is that there are 27 different strain / sorts of canker. One most therefore Change the type - what ever one it is - of cure they use. Canker also has a nasty way of becoming immune quickly to any cure so change them about a bit.
All pigeon carry canker and it is one reason of poor performnces.

Well all you rookies, The shot gun approach is the safest way to go for the newly weened YBs. Give them a treatment for canker/cocci/worms/pox/PMV and para. If they survive the treatment you usually wont ever have any sickness. But remember the vets says you cant eat them until after 30 days past the treatments. I wonder why, howling skitters or flying around the property doing wheelies? Lets race. Bye Billy
